2018 Midwest Rhythm Summit 

Fremont, OH, April 13, 2018 - Terra State Community College, in partnership with Bass Gear Magazine, will be hosting the 2018 Midwest Rhythm Summit, April 20 – 22, on the College’s Fremont, Ohio campus.  The three-day event is for high school and college educators, music technicians, professional musicians and gear heads. 

The Summit will offer attendees many different educational opportunities.  There will be three full days of master classes and clinics given by some of the top-recognized artists and professionals in the music industry.  Some of the clinicians include:

Chuck Rainey, bass player who has recorded and toured with Steely Dan, the Jackson 5 and Aretha Franklin, and John Anthony Martinez, drummer, who has recorded and performed with Thomas Dolby, Kacey Musgraves and the Oak Ridge Boys have created a bass and drum duo called Rhythm Intensive.  They will present twelve clinics over the three days on all aspects of rhythm and succeeding in the music industry.  

John Wooton, Director of Percussion Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi, will present “Functional Fundamentals,” a workshop on the latest techniques in today’s drumlines for high school students and educators.

Kazuma Jinnouchi – creator of the “halo” video games, and audio composer will discuss the methods used in creating games.

There are sixteen presenters in total, including: 

Frank Bello, bassist for the groundbreaking heavy metal band Anthrax. 

Larry Groupe, a four-time Emmy nominee and three time winning composer with a multitude of feature films to his credit, including Straw Dogs, The Contender (2 Academy Award nominations) and Nothing But The Truth.

Mike Dawson, Managing Editor, Modern Drummer Magazine.  

Wes Little, drummer who has performed and recorded with Sting, Stevie Wonder, Public Enemy, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Melissa Etheridge and Mary J. Blige.

Brian Allen, bassist who has recorded and/or toured with artists such as, Miranda Lambert, Sturgill Simpson, Sara Bareilles, the Oak Ridge Boys and Dolly Parton.

The Summit will also provide a Vendor Exhibition Area, concerts on Friday and Saturday nights, and the opportunity to network with music professionals, learn about products, gear and job opportunities.  

Any high school or college student with a valid student ID can attend at no cost.  The cost for all others to attend the Midwest Rhythm Summit is $20 for the entire three-day event.  Concerts on Friday and Saturday nights are $10.
