This year features many exciting performances and offers plenty of opportunity for students and community musicians to improve their skills and enjoy playing with others.
Following is a list of current instrumental ensembles available at Terra:
Terra Brass Choir is an ensemble open to all brass instrumentalists (trumpet, trombone, horn, euphonium and tuba). The Brass Choir is known for their popular "Organ and Brass" concerts and their collaborative performances with Terra’s choral and chamber music programs. Performing both classical and contemporary works, the Terra Brass Choir meets every Monday from 6:30-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 10.
Terra State Jazz Band is a full Big Band ensemble that specializes in both traditional and contemporary styles of jazz, swing, funk, blues and more. Open to instrumentalists (sax, trumpet, trombone, bass, piano, guitar and drums), the Jazz Band meets every Thursday from 6:30-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 6.
Terra Jazz Combos are interactive jazz ensembles that focus on playing traditional jazz standards, blues, funk and works to develop improvisation skills. Open to both instrumentalists and vocalists, placements for the jazz combos can be made through Doug Neel at 419-559-2233. The Terra Jazz Combos meet at various times throughout the week and are perfect for high schools students looking at expanding their skills in contemporary music.
Terra Chamber String Ensemble specializes in classical and traditional chamber string music, performing with annual Music on Sunday concert chamber programs as well as for other community events. Open to string instrumentalists (violin, viola, cello and bass), the string ensemble rehearses on Thursdays from 7-9:20 p.m. beginning Sept. 6.
Terra Guitar Ensemble is a focused chamber ensemble that performs both classical, traditional and contemporary works for guitarists. It’s perfect for developing music reading skills. Acoustic guitars only. Those interested in the guitar ensemble should call to register.
Terra Harp Ensemble is a unique ensemble that performs both traditional and contemporary works specially arranged for harps by renowned harpist Karen Westgate. Those interested please contact the Music Office at 419-559-2233.
Chamber Wind Ensembles: Those who play a wind instrument (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and saxophone) and are interested in playing in specialized wind ensembles, please contact the Music Office at 419-559-2233.
Flute Choir: The Northern Ohio Regional Flute Alliance will begin its rehearsals at 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the Bellevue Society of the Arts School at 205 Maple St. in Bellevue. Please bring a stand and your flute. No audition is required but membership in NORFA is mandatory. For more information, call Tamara Kagy at 419-681-0057.
