FREMONT – The Capital University Big Band will be performing a concert at Terra State Community College on Thursday, Feb. 20.
Sponsored by Chud's Grille in Fremont, this concert will feature Capital's 18-piece, award-winning, jazz ensemble under the direction of Dr. Lou Fischer, performing both standard/traditional and contemporary repertoire. Opening the concert will be a performance by Capital University's award-winning conFUSION Band.
While they are here for a performance, Fischer and some of Capital's students will be presenting workshops to Terra State’s jazz ensembles, the Terra Jazz Band and the Fremont Ross High School Jazz Band. These workshops will be in Terra State's Recital Hall, Building D, from 3 to 6 p.m. with the public welcome to attend and listen to these educational seminars.
"With many of the students in Terra State's music programs transferring to Capital after completing their associate degrees here, this is a natural performance and educational opportunity to bring to our campus and community" says Michael Shirtz, Dean of Business, Communications and the Arts.
Doors open for the concert at 6:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. This will be the first concert in the Neeley Center, Terra's new conference and hospitality center. Admission is $5 at the door with no reservation required. Beer/wine and appetizer plates will be available for purchase.
