The Cuyahoga Group, the vending and food service vendor for Terra State Community College, has donated $2,000 toward the Terra Choral Society and Jazz Ambassadors’ trip to Washington, D.C. later this week.
As part of the company’s contract with Terra State, these annual donations were developed to assist student groups, promote an event or benefit the college community. Two years ago, the Terra Choral Society was also the recipient and last year the funds helped finance the veterans’ concert.
“It just feels good to help a local group,” said Bob Vargo, Business Development Director for Cuyahoga Group. “National organizations are often very worthy, but to look at the faces of those we help, that’s what makes this special.”
The Terra Choral Society and Jazz Ambassadors will participate in the National Memorial Day Choral Festival in Washington, D.C. May 22-26.
“We are very excited about the opportunities for our musicians,” said Dean Michael Shirtz, who is also the Director of the Terra Choral Society. “It’s a wonderful experience for Terra State and our student and community musicians.”
The groups will appear at several venues throughout the weekend. On Friday, both groups will perform in the Ronald Reagan Building and on Saturday, the Jazz Ambassadors will perform at Grand Oaks for American Military Veterans as part of the National Festival of the States.
On Sunday, the Choral Society will join other choirs from across the country in a performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Memorial Day highlights include the Choral Society’s participation in the opening ceremonies of the National Memorial Day Parade on Constitution Avenue. Both groups will conclude their trip by appearing at the World War II Memorial as part of the National Festival of the States Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of D-Day.
