Terra College offers testing options for those students that qualify for academic accommodations. If you have received permission for special testing accommodations at the Disability Services, there are certain procedures that must be strictly followed. View the listing below for more information.
Step-by-Step Testing Procedures
- You must present a test routing form (available at the Disability Services) to your instructor, who will fill out all the required information and return the yellow copy to you. The instructor retains the white copy as a reminder that he/she must deliver the test to the Disability Services.
- Turn in your yellow copy of the test routing request to the Disability Services at least 3 days before the scheduled testing date. If this is not done, your test administration may be delayed.
- Your instructor should deliver a copy of the test (attached to the white copy of the test routing request) to the Disability Services as soon as possible, but at least 4 hours prior to the scheduled exam time, to allow for the conversion of the exam to an alternative format if necessary.
- Before beginning your test, you will receive special instructions, which must be followed at all times. Please read the instructions listed below carefully:
- Turn off all communication devices.
- You are not permitted to leave the Disability Services once the test has begun except to use the restroom.
- If you do leave the Disability Services, the test must be given to the attending proctor.
- If a time limit is being implemented, any time spent outside the Disability Services will be counted as testing time.
- All tests must be completed on the same day they were started unless it has been previously determined that the test will be administered in sections.
- You are responsible for having all your personal exam materials readily available.
- Any suspected evidence of cheating will be documented and reported to the appropriate faculty and staff members.
- No Show - If you fail to show up for a scheduled test, the Disability Services will phone you within 24 hours of the scheduled test time. Your instructor will also receive a message indicating that the test was not completed due to a failure to show.
- The Disability Services will return the test materials to your instructor within 2 days of the originally scheduled test date if no response is received from you.
- You will be responsible for re-scheduling and submitting a rescheduling authorization form, which can be found in the Disability Services.
- Cancelling a Test - If you decide that the test will not be taken in the Disability Services after completing and returning a test routing request form, it is your responsibility to notify the office of your change in plans.
- Illness - If you are unable to take an exam due to an illness or emergency, you should contact both the Disability Services and your instructor immediately. You are responsible for coordinating any make-up tests with the instructor and submitting a rescheduling authorization form to the Disability Services.
- Rescheduling a Test or Quiz - Obtain a rescheduling authorization form from the Disability Services. Your instructor will need to fill out the form and sign it. Return the form to the Disability Services.
- Readers – If you are using a reader, they can be asked to repeat information. Readers will only read what is on the printed page and cannot be asked to clarify or reword statements. Readers need feedback to be effective. You should indicate what reading tone, rate, etc. works best for you.
- Scribes - Scribes will write down verbatim what you have dictated. The scribe is not responsible for organizing or paraphrasing your thoughts into a final draft. Scribes are responsible for spelling and sentence-ending punctuation. You may direct the scribe to adhere to any specific spelling or punctuation within sentences. At any time, you have the right to review what the scribe has written either by reading it yourself or having it read to you. It is also your right to make corrections by directing the scribe to do so.
