Program of Study
The Home Visitor curriculum is designed specifically for persons who will be meeting with family members and children in a home setting. Coursework provides skills in recognizing child and adult family member needs. Techniques geared to helping parents enhance their parenting skills as well as intervention methods to assist families from diverse backgrounds will be emphasized. The student may work toward the degree in steps by completing the certificate and then the associate degree.
The faculty has identified the following Learning Outcomes for all graduates:
- Possess a theoretical knowledge of stages of human growth, development, and developmental domains.
- Develop skills in operational procedures based on NAEYC /Ohio’s Early Childhood Core Knowledge & Competency guidelines useful in a variety of early childhood settings
- Develop sociological knowledge and skill to work with children and families of diverse economic, cultural, and social backgrounds, as well as those dealing with a variety of exceptionalities.
- Demonstrate skill in program planning, assessment, guidance of children both individually and in groups, preparing the environment, and working in collaboration with others.
- Provide proof for Ohio Department of Education guidelines for working with children in the state of Ohio.
- See themselves as a member of a larger professional community, and accept the responsibility of personal professional growth.
- Realize the importance of children’s physical wellbeing as a basic foundation for their growth, development, and learning
POTENTIAL OCCUPATIONS:
Positions as family services workers who will be meeting with family members and children in a home setting.
