Grants – Terra Community College

If you are looking for ways to pay for your college degree program at Terra Community College, consider applying for grants. Some are awarded to students based on merit, while others are awarded based on need. Here are some grants for which you can apply:

Academic Competitiveness Grant

An eligible student may receive an Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) of $750 for the first academic year of study and $1,300 for the second academic year of study. To be eligible for each academic year, a student must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be a Federal Pell Grant recipient.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a degree program.

The options for Academic Competitiveness Grant eligibility for Ohio students are:

  • The Ohio Honors Diploma
  • A set of courses similar to the State Scholars Initiative.
    This program of study requires passing grades in the following:
    • Four years of English;
    • Three years of Math (including Algebra I and a higher
      level course such as Algebra II, Geometry, or Data Analysis and Statistics);
    • Three years of science (including at least two courses
      from biology, chemistry or physics);
    • Three years of social studies; and
    • One year of a foreign language.
     
  • Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and test scores. This program requires a minimum of two Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses in high school and a minimum passing score on the exams for those classes. Students must score 3 or higher on AP exams and 4 or higher on IB exams.

Federal Pell Grant

  • Awards for the academic year range from $1,176 to $5,550 depending on financial need and enrollment status.
  • Apply by completing the FAFSA and having a valid Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated.
  • Applicants with an EFC less than 3601-4011, depending on credit hour status, have financial need to qualify.
  • Available for four different enrollment levels:
Full-time 12 + credit hours
Three-quarter-time  9-11
Half-time  6-8
Less-than-half-time  1-5

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

  • Awards for the 2010-2011 academic year are $500.
  • FSEOG is a campus-based program with awards available on a first-apply, first-awarded basis.
  • Apply by completing the FAFSA, and having a valid Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculated.
  • Applicants with an EFC less than 3801 have financial need to qualify.
