Physical Therapist Assistant Degree

The Associate of Applied Science Degree Physical Therapist Assistant program prepares graduates for career as a Physical Therapist Assistant. A physical therapist assistant performs a broad range of skilled clinical services under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist and in a variety of health settings including hospital-based acute and outpatient; skilled nursing facilities; sub-acute rehabilitation hospitals; privately owned outpatient clinics; and home health agencies. Physical therapist assistants administer the patient treatment plan and interventions as directed by the supervising physical therapist; collect measures and other patient-related data; progress the patient within the parameters established by the supervising physical therapist; and document the treatment appropriately.


Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the National Physical Therapist Examination (NPTE) for physical therapist assistant. Graduates must then pass the NPTE for physical therapist assistants. Graduates must pass the NPTE for PTAs, along with a jurisprudence exam, in order to become in order to become licensed as a physical therapist assistant.
