Success Stories at Terra

Kim Krienke - 1996 Terra Graduate
Kim Krienke thinks her Terra degree was a springboard not only into a plastics career but also up the ladder in the company that has been her employer for almost eight years.
“Terra gave me the knowledge of plastics and color to build on in the industry,” she said. “Because I already had the schooling on this material, it gave me a head start. I was able to start at a level that someone off the street might take years to get to.”
Krienke, a 1994 Fremont Ross and Vanguard Vocational Center graduate, earned an Associate of Applied Science in Plastics Technology with a major in Color Matching in 1996. Adjunct faculty member Bob Charvat helped her connect with ColorMatrix Corporation in Cleveland where she started as a color matcher.
After two years in that position, she started supervising a shift in the Quality Control department. That led to a 3 ˝ month stay in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2001 to set up the Quality Control department for a new facility the company had built there. Upon her return to Cleveland, she was promoted to Quality Control Manager and was just recently promoted to Manager of Quality Assurance for the company.
Her duties now consist of managing the day-to-day duties of the Quality Control laboratory, including training staff for color correction and approval, approving incoming raw materials, establishing COAs for customer approval, setting specifications for product approval, and ensuring the product shipped meets and exceeds customer expectations.
Krienke is also responsible for maintaining the company’s ISO9001-2000 Certification by keeping procedures current, maintaining the internal audit program and ensuring the company is following the ISO9001-2000 standard.
