TWO TERRA FACULTY MEMBERS
TO BE RECOGNIZED IN OHIO MAGAZINE
Two members of Terra Community College’s faculty will be among those recognized in Ohio Magazine’s 2005 Excellence in Education feature in the December issue.
Brad Smith, Associate Professor in Criminal Justice, and Acy Jackson, Adjunct Faculty in English, were nominated by Terra and selected by a panel of Ohio Magazine editors who felt they deserve to be recognized for their achievements both in and out of the classroom. Both men live in Fremont.
Jackson, who is originally from Youngstown, has been at Terra for six years. He has a bachelor’s degree from Westminster College (Pa.) and master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and Columbia University. For six years, he taught in Iran and Pakistan and was the director of the English Language Institute in Tehran.
“I enjoy teaching at Terra Community College because it takes seriously the notion of a community of scholars committed to rigor in academic inquiry and diversity in the range of opportunities it offers,” Jackson said.
“Terra, moreover, provides creative venues for me to assist students in achieving goals which they might not otherwise achieve were it not for my expectations for them. I am deeply honored and proud to be a part of this dynamic education enterprise.”
Smith is a Terra alum having earned an Associate of Arts and Sciences from Terra Technical College. He has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and a master’s from Heidelberg College. Smith, who is a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC), has been at Terra for seven years.
“Terra Community College is the greatest place I’ve ever worked because 99.9 percent of the students are sincerely trying to better their lives,” Smith said. “Watching a person blossom and having a positive impact on their lives is incredible.”
The 2005 Excellence in Education feature will be seen by 225,000 readers of Ohio Magazine.
