Douglass Gilmore There’s only one Douglass Gilmore at Terra, but with the variety of activities in which he is involved at the college and in the community, it seems like he has body doubles. After Gilmore earned his General Educational Development (GED) diploma, he came to Terra to major in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Besides his studies, he participates in the Multicultural Committee, the African American College Club and the Student Senate at Terra. Off campus, Gilmore is a board member for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), participates in the Fremont African American College Club and is a mentor for the Fremont Middle School’s A.C.E. Mentoring Program. In just a few short months, he has left such an impression that he’s won several awards and scholarships. And Terra has made an impact on him. “Terra has been a wonderful experience that I would never have expected,” the 22-year-old said. “Since earning my GED in 2004, Terra has helped broaden my horizons. “At Terra, I feel like it’s a family atmosphere. I have never seen such dedicated faculty at a school. Terra provides many opportunities to students with their programs, education and mentoring.” Added to the Web 1/26/06 |
