TERRA SUCCESS -
The old saying may be, “You can never go home again,” but don’t tell that to Scott Root. Root, who graduated from Terra Community College in 1998, thinks returning to the campus is one of the most rewarding parts of being a Terra alumnus. Root is the branch manager of Time Services’ Ohio Technical Division located in Tiffin. He is responsible for building strong relationships with the companies and industries in this area that Time Services currently services or those in need of staffing and technical positions within their organization. Having received associate degrees in Business Management and Total Quality Management from Terra, Root felt ready for the business world. “Terra has prepared me to be an effective motivator and leader,” he said. “The tools learned from TQM and the drive for continuous improvement has allowed me to go from being an outside salesperson to being a branch manager for the Fremont office and then for the Ohio Technical Division. “The information learned from my Business Management courses allowed me to have an understanding of every day business practices and what it takes to be an effective team member in an organization.” Root is a Certified Staffing Professional through the American Staffing Association and has completed numerous leadership development training courses. He is a member of the Sandusky County Human Resources Management Association, the Sandusky County Safety Council and the local Chamber of Commerce. His parents are Dennis and JoAnn Root. He and his fiancé, Jaccie Mesnard, have a daughter, Brooklynn. In his spare time, Root enjoys coaching fifth and sixth grade basketball at the Fremont Rec Center. His advice for students considering a career in business is simple. “It takes hard work and determination to achieve the goals you set forth for your career,” he said. “If you feel a career in business is what’s right for you, take the first step and enroll in classes at Terra. This will give you the knowledge and the tools to become a leader in your career.”
