Current Program and Course Description Information: 

Program of Study

The Programmable/Computer Controls major focuses on the integration of industrial controls with modern information technology (IT).

Students will study the implementation of hardware and software controls and interfaces with an emphasis on programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and operator interface software.

Students will gain hands-on experience in our modern laboratories in installing, programming, and troubleshooting industrial control systems.

The faculty has identified the following Learning Outcomes for all graduates:
  • Troubleshoot conventional and specialized motors and their feedback systems.
  • Understand residential, commercial, and industrial diagrams, as well as motor control, hydraulic, pneumatic, and instrumentation piping diagrams.
  • Troubleshoot and program open and closed loop process systems.
  • Install, program and troubleshoot, state of the art, Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Select, install and troubleshoot industrial electrical sensors and devices.
  • Design, install, and program a human interface device for a PLC network.
  • Install, and troubleshoot a PLC and computer communications network.
  • Interface computer database systems to and from industrial PLC's.
