MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING

Computer Aided Design &
Manufacturing Technician Major

Current Program and Course Description Information:

Program of Study

Computer Assisted Design and Manufacturing has become an integral part of product design and manufacturing. From preliminary drawings, to parametric design, to animated assembly, to computer-aided manufacturing, CAD systems simplify, enhance and streamline the process.

Many people use CAD skills along with machining, CNC, and CAM on the job. In larger companies, individuals use only a small part of the systems’ capabilities to handle their specific assignments. However, some specialists need to have an understanding of operation and use of the entire CAD package. In smaller companies, the CAD people must also have this broad understanding.

The Computer Assisted Design and Manufacturing major provides an applied knowledge of all aspects of a CAD software system, basics in machining, CNC and CAM.

Integral with the use of the CAD system are courses in the analysis theory required for a design. The students are required to combine the CAD, with the analysis and with design principles to combine practical design problems.

This degree is designed for students who want to get an Associate’s degree and then go into the workforce. If you are interested in getting a bachelor’s degree, see Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

The faculty has identified the following Learning Outcomes for all graduates:

• Able to comprehend blueprint drawing.

• Prepare drawing on Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to completely describe a part for manufacture, including views and tolerances.

• Understand the different manufacturing systems.

• Apply CAD skills to produce an assemblies, animations, and rendering of parts in various software packages.

• Learn to produce and inspect parts using various types of tools and manual machines.

• Program, produce and inspect parts on Computer Numerical Control (CNC)equipment.

• Learn to produce parts on Computer-Aided Machiningg (CAM) software packages.
