Criminal Justice Major Associate of Applied Science
Current Program and Course Description Information:
Program of Study The Criminal Justice program is designed for students who are interested in the criminal justice field, but do not want to pursue the traditional roles of Police Officer, or Sheriff’s Deputy. Graduates of the program will learn the technical skills needed to enter or advance in a wide variety of positions in the criminal justice field. Graduates earning a two-year Criminal Justice degree from Terra can transfer to four-year institutions to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Requirements vary depending on the student’s ultimate goal. Students interested in bachelor’s completion should contact an advisor or a representative from the Business and Public Service Technologies Division. The faculty has identified the following Learning Outcomes for all graduates: • Demonstrate psychomotor skills. • Demonstrate the skills of using a computer when writing a report. • Demonstrate the ability to use measuring devices at crime scenes. • Demonstrate the ability to gather/collect store and transport evidence of a crime scene without damaging it. • Demonstrate behavioral and social skills. • Demonstrate listening skills. • Demonstrate the proper search, questioning interrogation, and arrest skills. • Have knowledge and proper use of terminology pertaining to law enforcement. • Able to write clear, concise reports of investigations. • Able to communicate orally with a wide variety of people.
