CENTER FOR INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS (CIMS)
As part of a Society of Manufacturing Engineers grant, Terra Community College is developing the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Solutions. This will offer students the opportunity to participate in a unique Capstone experience involving close cooperation with local industrial partners. Under the supervision of the Capstone Director, students engage in a year-long actual manufacturing project.
The experience involves a required sequence of courses as well as concurrent enrollment in Capstone Seminars I, II and III. The seminars are one credit hour each, offered in Fall, Winter and Spring quarters respectively. Courses in this sequence apply directly to the manufacturing project submitted to the college by local industry, while the seminar sequence coordinates the projects, the course applicability and student participation in the project.

The Capstone experience allow students to work directly with local industries to solve actual manufacturing problems. Students will be learning to design and fabricate original solutions. They will also document their work and present ideas and results to managers and engineers from our industrial partners. This unique experience gives the students the opportunity to learn about the world of manufacturing first hand and establish valuable contacts in local industry. |
