Vocal Performance

VOCAL PERFORMANCE

 

Program of Study

 

Vocal Performance focuses on vocal technique, repertoire, language, and performance skills, while providing the musician with knowledge of music theory and history.

 

Students acquire individualized attention via Applied Music Lessons with accomplished singers and teachers. Performance skills are nurtured through participation in Recital Attendance class, Community Chorus, and Chamber Singers (when appropriate).

 

In addition, Music Theory, Aural Skills, and Music History are integrated with performance studies in order to broaden artistic understanding.

 

This degree has been arranged so that transfer into Bachelor of Music programs is achievable.

 

The faculty has identified the following Learning Outcomes for all graduates:

 

·         Understand the mechanics of proper breathing and posture.

·         Produce clear diction.

·         Have a reasonable command of foreign language(s).

·         Identify terms and concepts in the study of music theory.

·         Sight-read, harmonize, and improvise at the sophomore level.

·         Identify the characteristic styles, composers, and other aspects of medieval to modern music.

·         Articulate the cultural influences on musical styles of various historical periods.

·         Perform a variety of styles including Medieval, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Popular.

·         Understands and has experience conducting choral works.
