Kay Hicks Humanities & Arts Instructor Kay began her bachelor's degree at Bowling Green State University and later transferred to Eastern Michigan University where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in painting and sculpture. She spent a short period in commercial art before teaching K-12 art classes. With a desire to teach on the college level, she obtained a Master of Arts from Marietta College with a concentration in Native American Art History. Upon coming to Fremont, she assisted in the research and updating of the American Indian exhibit at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Museum before teaching at Terra Community College in 1999. Kay is currently teaching Art History, Art Appreciation, and Humanities at Terra. She has past experience teaching Drawing, Sculpture, and other studio classes. But her most enjoyable experience at Terra has been the Community Service Learning Project between the Fremont YMCA and her TCC Color Communication students. Under her direction, the students contracted with the Y to submit designs and produce the wall mural in the Don Miller-All Purpose Room. Outside of teaching, Kay gives art slide lectures to civic organizations, churches, and schools. She has published poetry and earned several awards for her artwork. Kay is married with four children and four grandchildren.
