Virgil Lupu
Artist-in-Residence Romanian-born Virgil Lupu began his musical training at age five and started playing the violin at age seven. Mr. Lupu appeared in numerous recitals throughout Transylvania and he frequently toured in Romania, Germany, France, Austria, Cyprus, and the United States with different orchestras or ensembles.
After graduating from the Sigismund Toduta Music High School in 2001,
Mr. Lupu came to the United States to study violin with Prof. Vasile
Beluska at Bowling Green State University, and graduated with a bachelor's
degree in violin performance in 2004 and a master's degree in Violin
Performance at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, studying with Prof. Sassmannshaus. He performed in master classes for Victor Danchenko, Almita Vamos, Stephen Rose, David Halen, Marilyn McDonald, Isabel Trautwein, Aneta Vogel, Stefan Milenkovich, William Pu, Andrej Grabiec, and more. Lupu is an active orchestra player and chamber musician. He frequently performs with the Lima Symphony, Adrian Symphony, Great Lakes Symphony, and the Toledo Symphony. He enjoys spending his summers at different summer festivals such as the National Orchestral Institute, Texas Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival and the Chautauqua Music Festival. Lupu is the artist-in-residence/instructor where he serves as the coordinator and concertmaster for the Chamber Arts Orchestra, teaches music history, and is developing new interactive online education programs in applied music and performance. Besides the teaching at Terra, Lupu holds positions with the Toledo School for the Arts maintains an active private violin studio in the Bowling Green and Toledo area.
