Current Program and Course Description Information:
Program of Study The Social Work Assistant program prepares students for employment in many different entry-level positions. Students seeking a career in social work should recognize that personal qualities such as warmth, honesty, openness, hopefulness, concern, and sensitivity are essential. The student practicum portion of the curriculum provides 350 hours of supervised learning experience in various social service agencies. The academic and field requirements are rigorous and require student commitment. Students who receive below a “C” in a course must repeat that course to meet graduation requirements. Graduates with a “C” or better in all courses may apply to be registered as Social Work Assistants by the Ohio Counselor and Social Work Board. The faculty has identified the following Learning Outcomes for all graduates: • Adhere to the professional code of ethics of the National Association of Social Workers in working with clients. • Perform a case assessment interview according to the code of ethics for the Nation Association of Social Workers. • Demonstrate an understanding of the social work field through the practical experience of the social work practicum • Exhibit a professional manner by displaying the following traits: propriety, competence, and professional tone. • Exhibit an understanding of the importance of integrity impartiality and social responsibilities.
