Telecommunity Courses
at Terra

Telecommunity courses offer students an alternative to coming to a college campus to take college courses.  The courses are broadcast to remote sites.  Students are required to attend class and meet with their teacher via interactive television.

Unlike strictly online distance learning classes, the telecommunity courses are real time and interactive. An instructor and class at Terra are broadcast to area high schools where students receive the broadcast and are able to interact and be seen with students and teachers at Terra.
It’s this technology that has brought calculus to the tiny island
school of Put-in-Bay during the 2004-05 academic year.

The Northern Ohio Educational Computer Association (NOECA) provides the equipment and the students pay tuition for the courses. Students who are eligible for Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) may also enroll in these classes. The high schools are not charged for the broadcasts.

The following schools have participated in the telecommunity schedule:  Bellevue, Bettsville, Hopewell Loudon, Port Clinton, Seneca East, Western Reserve, Monroeville, South Central, Oak Harbor and Put-in-Bay

The tentative 2005-2006 schedule includes College Composition I and II, College Algebra, Calculus I, II and III, General Psychology, College Geometry and Trigonometry, Sociology and Statistics.
