FALL SEMESTER 2006 

The Terra Community College Music Department is offering many exciting opportunities to area singers of all ages this winter quarter.
Check out the lineup:

  • New to Terra’s choral program is the addition of the Children’s Choir.  This ensemble is a great place for children, ages 8-13, to learn and experience the joy of performing while expanding and developing their musical talents, improve self-confidence, make new friends, and seek new opportunities in a fun, professional environment. 

    Singers in the Terra Children’s Choir will receive a music folder and pay a $50 participation and music fee per quarter.  Weekly rehearsals are on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m., beginning September 14 The Children’s Choir is coordinated through the Terra Music Academy.  Participation fee is $50 and it is managed through the Kern Center.  For more information about this program, contact: Andrea Draper at the Kern Center

  • The Terra Choral Society is open to all community members and students interested in singing, age 14–adult. Members are not required to audition for this ensemble and all levels and experience are welcome. Those interested need only be present at rehearsals ready to sing. All members receive a music folder and pay a $20 participation fee per term. The Terra Choral Society is a 60-plus member choir with weekly rehearsals in the choir room, E110, on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m., beginning August 29.

  • The Men’s Chorus is open to men ages 14-adult interested in singing and taking part in the grand tradition of great men’s choirs. No auditions are required for this ensemble. Members receive a music folder and pay a $10 participation fee per quarter.  Weekly rehearsals are in the choir room, E110, on Tuesdays from 8 to 9:15 p.m. , beginning September 19.

  • Arts Chorale is an 18-20 member auditioned chamber ensemble that holds an active performance schedule and includes a membership of selected college vocal majors, current and former area music teachers and choir directors and community musicians.  Arts Chorale rehearses Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. The Arts Chorale will present concerts of works of Bach, Haydn, Brahms and more throughout the winter and spring quarters.

  • State of the Art is an ensemble of auditioned college and high school students that rehearse and perform jazz and pop music as well as traditional chamber music and musical theater.  State of the Art is designed to give students the opportunity to study music and sing on a concentrated level, including solo and group performance techniques and leadership skills.  State of the Art meets Mondays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Performances this spring will include a Swing Show and a Broadway Review.

Choral auditions for the Arts Chorale and State of the Art are mandatory and singers should prepare a short piece to perform for the director that best demonstrates their vocal ability, sight-reading skills, musicianship and previous choral performance experience. Singers who are in high school are encouraged, but not required, to receive a recommendation from their high school choir director.  Auditions are held in the choir room at Terra Community College in Building E, Room 110.
