GEN1000 - Orientation Online

In this course, you will learn how to access and use a variety of academic and support services designed to ease the transition into a college environment.  This will also help prepare you to become a successful student at Terra State Community College. 

Completing GEN 1000 via the Internet will allow you to work at times and in places that are convenient for you, whether it is 6 p.m. or 6 a.m., at home or at Terra. You will, however, have to complete a required number of modules within a 15-week semester (8-week summer term) as well as complete several assignments and a final test.

The course is comprised of several modules, some of which you can tailor to your own needs and interests.  The modules will cover a variety of topics including, but not limited to: Financial Aid, Library Research, Study Skills/Stress and Time Management, Career Services/Advising/Planning and Finalizing your Degree, CAMS/Student Portal/E-portfolio, How to Be an Informed College Student, and the Adult Student.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Modules 1-8 must be completed by every student. 
  • Each student must ALSO complete a minimum of TWO ELECTIVE modules in order to complete this course. 
  • STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE ALL ASSIGNMENTS WITH A GRADE OF SATISFACTORY OR 70% TO PASS THE COURSE.  Uploading the Cultural Diversity writing assignment to the e-portfolio is a course requirement.
