Distance Learning

at Terra Community College

Welcome To Another Type of Learning

Distance learning may be a new learning environment for many students. Distance Learning provides a quality education for people who lead busy lives and desire to start or continue pursing their educational goals.  Distance learning courses are just like traditional on-campus classes, but modern technologies are used to present the course materials and communicate with the instructor and other students.

Students may come to campus once a week as is the case in a hybrid course which mixes a traditional course with an online component, not at all or for specific tasks such as an orientation, for taking tests, or occasional meetings.  You take your courses with a group of other students.  Your instructors are experienced professionals and will be more of a facilitator of your learning, rather than a lecturer.  Throughout your courses, you may have ongoing, individual and/or group dialogs with instructors and/or other students.

Getting Started With Distance Learning

If you are new to Distance Learning make sure that you are a candidate for this type of learning.  Complete the Are Distance Learning Courses For You? assessment.

If you are a candidate for distance learning, but are not sure what is expected, complete the Distance Learning Orientation.  This orientation simulates what it would be like to take a distance learning course online.  Besides instructional tutorials, the orientation has assignments to be completed.   You can finish the orientation in one week, even though many of the activities will require feedback and interaction with the Orientation administrator.  Once you have received the feedback, you may proceed to the next assignment.  Click here to begin the Distance Learning Orientation.

Upon completion of the orientation, register for the distance learning course, just as you would a traditional course.  Make sure that you have met all of the course requirements, which are listed in the description.

Upon Completion of a Distance Learning Course

We appreciate your help in providing an honest feedback about the course experiences you are having in the distance learning classes at Terra. This web-based questionnaire provides you with an opportunity to evaluate a course(s) and the course's instructor. The results will be used to provide a basis for course improvement and overall assessment of the effectiveness of this course.

This evaluation is anonymous. Responses will be recorded electronically. The evaluation results are not given to your instructor until after grades have been turned in.

After completing a Distance Learning Course, other than the GEN1000 Orientation Course, please fill out the following online Course Evaluation Form.

After completing the GEN1000 Orientation Course, please fill out the following online Orientation Evaluation Form.
