Career Services

             


This module will familiarize students with the career services available at Terra Community College.


Learning Objectives:  

  • Students will verify their interests, abilities and values by using the Discover Assessment.
  • Students will explore their Career Cluster in Discover to make informed decisions concerning their course of study.
  • Students will register to use the job search program.

Computer with Internet access with printer, email address

 


 

Activities / Assignments:

 

Assignment 1 - Using DISCOVER to learn about possible careers for you

1.  Email Joan Gamble at jgamble@terra.edu to request for a user ID and password.  Please include your first and last names and your GEN 1000 section.  Example: Jane Student, GEN 1000VL-7.

2.  Follow the directions below to take the DISCOVER Assessment:

  • Go to www.terra.edu and click on the "Support Services" tab.
  • On the Support Services page, click on the "Career and
    Employment Planning"
    tab.
  • Click on the DISCOVER link. 

3.  Complete the DISCOVER Assessment and print the summary

4.  Save in portfolio as favorite.

5.  Open Job search tab and view the topics.

6.  Select Save & Exit and then respond to the evaluation before you select exit.

Assignment 2 - Understanding your "DISCOVER" results

1.  To schedule a review session with Joan Gamble, Coordinator of Career Services, for the "Summary of the Inventories," contact Shirley Castillo in A200 at 419.559.2344 or scastillo@terra.edu
The first half-hour of each session will be Module 8 and the second half-hour will be Module 5.
The review sessions will meet in Room B305, dates, times, are below:

Spring 2008 Modules 8 and 5.

  • Monday, February 18 -12:30 to 1:30 p.m.,
    and 4 to 5 p.m.`                                Rm B305

  • Monday, February 25 - 4 to 5 p.m.        Rm B305

  • Tuesday, March 11 - 4 to 5  p.m.          Rm B305

  • Monday, March 24 -12:30 to 1:30 p.m.   Rm B305

  • Tuesday, March 25 -12:30 to 1:30 p.m.  Rm B305

  • Friday, April 18 -10:30 to11:30 a.m.       Rm B305

Assignment 3 - Registering on the Job Board

1.  Go to www.terra.edu and click on the "Support Services" tab.

2.  On the Support Services page, click on the "Career and Employment Planning" tab.

3.  Click on the "eCampus Recruiter" link.

4.  Register for the Terra Job board 

 

Once you have completed assignments#1 and #2, you will receive a completion receipt from Joan Gamble.  Place this receipt in an envelope; make sure your instructors name is on the envelope; and then place the envelope in the mail drop box (located on the second floor hall of building B outside of the Print Shop and across from the TerraVue restaurant.)
