  • After you have finished the assignments on this page, please go to the Elective Modules page and select a minimum of TWO modules to complete this course.)


NOTE:  DUE DATES for all module assignments are available here in The GEN 1000 Syllabus in your choice of an MS Word (.doc) or in Rich Text Format (.rtf).  It is recommended that you print this list for future reference.


Complete all of the following Modules #1-8:

  1. Succeeding at Distance Learning
    This module is designed to help students gain a greater understanding of commonly-used computer terms; develop stronger technology skills by engaging in activities that simulate distance learning course activities; and understand the importance of communication.

  2. CAMS/Student Portal
    The Student Portal Scavenger Hunt will help students learn the tools, information, and services available through their personal online portal.

  3. Assessment of Student Learning/Cultural Writing Assignment
    This module will explain how student learning is assessed at Terra, how the e-portfolio is a part of that process, and your first assessment assignment, a cultural diversity writing assignment.  This assignment will provide the college with entry point data on student writing skills and cultural awareness, pursuant to institutional assessment of college General Education Goals #1 (“communicate effectively”) and #3 (“demonstrate an understanding of cultural differences and the knowledge of how to work effectively in a global and diverse culture and society”)


  4. Know Your Library
    Welcome to the “Know your Library” module of orientation.  You will receive a series of general information modules about the library and its resources.  We hope that this series of modules will acquaint you to the skills you will need to effectively use our library resources. Although the modules will only cover nine specific topics, each topic is designed to introduce you to services available to you.

  5. Supporting Our Students
    After completing this module, the student will have a greater understanding of the academic resources offered to those who may be struggling in a particular course or need academic accommodations resulting from a permanent or temporary disability.

  6. Advising—Planning and Finalizing Your Degree
    This module will help you develop and implement your academic plan.  You will be able to identify resources necessary to make informed decisions about academic majors, and the steps necessary to plan for your successful attainment of academic goals.

  7. Study Skills: Stress/Time Management
    The purpose of this module is to help students learn how they may reduce stress by managing time more effectively.

  8. Career Services
    This module will familiarize students with the career services available at Terra Community College.
