Succeeding at Distance Learning


This module will help you gain a greater understanding of commonly-used computer terms; develop stronger technology skills by engaging in activities that simulate distance learning course activities; and understand the importance of communication.

Learning Objectives: 

 

  • Review technology terms related to using the computer, Internet and online communication
  • Identify hardware and software needs 
  • Practice executing basic commands needed to complete many class assignments
  • Review tools and techniques to improve Internet research
  • Identify different types of online communication
  • Understand the components of an email window 
  • Use email tools more efficiently which include copying, forwarding and attaching a file
  • Review how to use the Student Portal discussion forum

Required Resources: 

 

  • A computer 
  • Internet access
  • Email account 
  • Rudimentary word processing software like WordPad
