Assignment 3: Basic Communication Skills

Basic communication skills used to indicate phone calls or using the postal service to send letters and packages.  With the use of the Internet, the use of electronic mail has become very popular and heavily used.  Email is short for electronic mail which is a quick and easy way to send messaged from your computer to any other computer in the world that is connected to the Internet.  Anything created on your computer can be sent via email.  This includes reports, spreadsheets, pictures and even files.  How does this apply to distance learning?

Traditionally, a student's learning is centered around a classroom, a class time, and an instructor that stands in front of the classroom lecturing. When a student seeks educational alternatives, the teaching methods are centered around the student.  Educational alternatives include hybrid classes, computer-based courses, or online course, all are considered distance learning at Terra State Community College.  By taking advantage of today's communication technologies, students are given the flexibility they need to continue or accelerate their education.   One of the basic communication technologies is the email program that allows for asynchronous computer-mediated communication, whereby people communicate in a delayed fashion by computer.

Upon completion of this section, a student will be able to

          Review email terms

Recognize the components of an email message form

Compose and send an email message

Open, reply to, and forward a message

          Send CC of message

          Open and/or save an attachment
