Succeeding At
Distance Learning

This website serves "2" purposes:

A module in the GEN1000 Course
An orientation for students taking distance learning courses

The goal of Succeedintg at Distance Learning is to answer your questions and to make you better prepared for the distance learning classes that you decide to take.

How do I begin?

Prior to registering for a distance learning course, you should

·          take the distance learner self-assessment -
Are Distance Learning Courses For You?

·          determine if you have access to the minimum computer hardware/software

·          complete the self-paced Distance Learning Orientation

Minimum Hardware/Software Requirements

If the self-assessment indicates that you would be successful at distance learning, then you must make sure that your computer meets the “minimum” hardware and software requirements.  Click here to view a listing of the minimum technical requirements for a computer.

* Please review the section relating to email messages that are received and sent to the Bulk Mail folder.

Orientation To The Distance Learning Environment

This orientation is recommended for all new distance learning students. It will allow you to assess your skills with those needed to take distance learning courses at Terra State Community College.  Each student will be responsible for assessing his/her own skill levels.  If you do not possess these skills, sign up for the computer literacy course at Terra.

Each assignment in this orientation is primarily self-paced (asynchronous). Please complete the tasks (activities) in each assignment because the responses will be used in the next one.  It will take about two to three hours to complete all of the activities.

Once you have completed this orientation, you must contact your distance learning instructor(s) via email.  You should provide your instructor(s) with the following information:

  • Your full name which is used in Terra State Community College records
  • Your email address
  • Confirmation that you have completed the Succeeding At Distance Learning orientation assignments.

To start, just click here.

Encountering Difficulties
