Current Program and Course Description Information:  

Program of Study

Plastics is one of todays fastest growing industries with an estimated growth potential of more than 500% over the next 10 years. Such impressive growth indicates an abundance of job opportunities.

Terras Plastics program provides students with a broad background in resin manufacturing through all the methods needed to produce finished articles. Practical handson experience is gained on state-of-the-art equipment in the plastic processes of extrusion, injection, thermoforming, physical testing and blow molding.

Plastics Technology could open new opportunities for advancement to those presently in the industry. Students should enjoy mathematics, physics and chemistry.

The faculty has identified the following Learning Outcomes for all graduates:

Correctly and efficiently start-up, shut down, operate, troubleshoot, and optimize the operation of common plastic processing machines.

Properly perform standard tests common to the plastics industry to identify unknown plastic materials, and determine their important physical properties using ASTM test methods.

Identify the various safety hazards associated with the handling and processing of plastic materials, as well as work with plastics in a safe and environmentally sound manner.

Identify the most common families of plastics used in the plastic industry, and list their important physical properties.
