Many community colleges have openings for Adjunct Faculty.  Most of these positions require a minimum of a Master's Degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or statistics.

  

RHODES STATE COLLEGE POSITION POSTING

POSITION: Instructor of Arts and Sciences (Mathematics)
  This position reports to the Chair of Mathematics and the Dean of Arts and Sciences.
 
INITIAL
CONTRACT PERIOD:
September 17, 2008 to June 16, 2009; annually renewable nine (9) month contract.
 
POSITION DUTIES:

Responsibilities are divided as follows: half-time teaching of mathematics and half-time coordination of the Mathematics/Sciences Skills Center. Specific and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Teach mathematics courses ranging from arithmetic to calculus including statistics with a typical load of 10 credit hours (usually two 5 credit hour courses) per quarter. Teaching assignments may include day, evening and/or weekend. (evening classes may be expected some quarters)
  2. Provide 5 office hours per week which may include student advising, curriculum development, online course development/delivery, textbook review/ selection and assessment activities.
  3. Provide 5 hours weekly of professional and community service including attending faculty and curriculum meetings, participation in professional development, mentoring adjunct instructors, serving on campus committees, and community activities.
  4. Foster an atmosphere of inclusiveness and support for our diverse student population.
  5. Be willing to teach in other academic divisions as well as Solutions, etc. as needed.
  6. Coordination of the Mathematics/Science Skills Center (20 hours perweek) including: -Tutoring mathematics in the center -Assisting in the recruitment and training of mathematics tutors in collaboration with the Director of the Learning Center -Supervising and scheduling mathematics and science tutors -Overseeing the center -Organizing mathematics/science resources -Supervising the usage of skills center materials in collaboration with the Director of The Learning Center -Reviewing and updating mathematics resources -Recommending budgetary needs and providing payroll information to the Director of The Learning Center
  7. Be committed to implementation of the philosophy and conceptual framework of the Arts & Sciences Division.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
   
MAJOR WORK
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a Master’s degree in mathematics or related area with at least eighteen semester hours (or the quarterly equivalent) of graduate courses in mathematics. Previous teaching experience at the two-year college level is preferred. Ability to interact positively with students and colleagues is essential. Must be committed to the two-year college mission and quality instruction.
 
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience.
