COMPUTER SERVICES
The computer resources available for Terra's students include hundreds of computers installed in a variety of labs. Access to the computing facilities is based on enrollment status.
Terra uses
Microsoft 2007 as the core software in the computer labs. Other software is available depending on the academic departments that use the lab. *Free download of Adobe Acrobat Reader
Terra has 20 computing labs for the use of students. Five special-purpose computer labs on campus expose students to different computing environments. One is a Macintosh lab in A300.
Other "specialty" labs use the Windows XP operating systems. The labs in A204 and A206 focus on Office Automation software. A 204 contains 22 3.2 GHz machines and A206 contains 23 2.8 GHz both labs utilize wireless network technology.
Rooms E210, contains 24 2.8 GHz Dell computers and E214, contains 20 Dell 2.8 MHz computers and 2 Dell 2.4 GHz, all running Windows XP, specialize in AutoCAD and Digital Multimedia Technology curriculum.
Fourteen teaching computer labs provide a computing environment to deliver instruction. Rooms E104 and B204 are used by the Kern Center for Community and Industrial Development for delivering training to business and industry.
The Computer Information Systems Faculty use B304, B305, B306 and B307 for their curriculum. Rooms B306 has 25 Dell 2.8 GHz and B307 has 23 Dell 2.6 GHz computers running Windows XP. Room B305, used for advanced database classes, has been outfitted with 3.2GHz machines also running Windows XP Professional.
Room E105 is used by the Engineering faculty for instruction in Programmable Logic Control (PLC) equipment. This lab utilizes Windows XP.
Please visit our three "open" computer labs - B Atrium, the SAC and D Atrium. These computers allow students to work on course assignments, send and receive email, and use the Internet outside of the regular classroom setting. There is a "lab assistant" available in B Atrium to provide help with the hardware and software. Look for the HELP DESK sign.
Email accounts are available for all students. This service is free to all currently enrolled students at Terra. This system allows access to email from any browser. It is similar to HotMail without the junk mail. You may fill out an AUP form at the Help Desk on the 3rd floor of Building B. Once this is done you may log into your email account. If no one is at the Help Desk then go to B309 to finish your paperwork for your email account. The AUP form is also available online for students to submit.
Terra's Computer Center is located on the third floor of the General Technologies Building (Building B). The main office is B309. Both CIS faculty and Computer Center staff have offices in this area.
The locations of all Terra's computer labs can be found on our website. Check the campus map for building locations.
