Center Profile

The Center is licensed by the Ohio Department of

Job and Family Services to serve Children of
Terra students, faculty, staff and the community.

Age groups include:
infants, toddlers

and preschoolers ranging in age from 6 weeks to 5

years.  The infant teacher to child ratio is 1:4; the

toddler teacher to child ratio is  1:5; and the

preschool teacher to child ratio is 1:9.   Each

classroom has two full-time teachers, part-time

teachers and student assistants.

The Daily Routine

The Center is open fiom 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Monday through Friday. The calendar year runs

from September to early May following the
College's Academic Calendar.

Physical Environment

The architectural design of the Center was based on

the belief that the physical space should be

comfortable, home-like and aesthetically pleasing

for all that occupy the area of roughly 6,000 square

feet.

The use of many windows to the outside and inside

environments  allow for the natural connection

with the physical setting and the educational

choices that inspire the center and its philosophy.

The entire Center is situated on one floor and can be

seen with a single sweep of the eyes once the visitor

has passed through the entrance area, which is lined

with panels of children's work.

Each classroom is divided into different centers
where the children can work in small or large groups,
with or without the teachers.

The furnishings are those enriched by elements seen

in the residential sector to provide the most

comfortable surroundings possible.

The Outdoor Environment

The campus of Terra Community College provides

many  outdoor areas  to extend  classroom

experiences. The woods, blue bird trail, prairie and

creek offer a wide range of biodiversity for the

children to explore.
