Why did you enter the teaching profession?
I have always enjoyed providing educational opportunities for students, starting out as taking on student interns and moving on to clinical students in both Therapeutic Recreation and Physical Therapist Assisting. I have been involved in coaching several sports at both youth and adult program levels. Early in my career, I provided educational presentations for colleagues and for community events. I had never really had the time to fit in "formally" teaching and while finding myself in a job change situation, this opportunity presented itself. Truly, when one door closes another opens! It was the perfect time.
What do you like most about your field?
I especially like the diversity of populations in which this field encompasses, finding the right niche for everyone.
Fun facts:
I often surprise myself when I reflect on the many things I have done and have accomplished. For instance, this past year I became certified to teach Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall prevention which at first I never thought I would be able to master it, let alone teach. I still have a lot more to learn, but it has been fun.
