Beyond the Track: Terra State Student Bridges Music and Racing with Unique Connection
T
The Fremont Speedway kicks off its season on April 6th, 2024, with the introduction
of two new members to its media production team: Skyler Weaver and Mychael Gamble,
both students in the Terra State music program. This marks the first official collaboration
between Terra State and the Fremont Raceway, although Terra State has been involved
with the Speedway in various sponsorship roles in the past.
“It really is a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about live sound production,
event promotion, music production and voiceover by providing custom ads for race sponsors.
A lot of effort gets put into the production of these race events weekly and it’s
exciting for our students to have a consistent opportunity to learn week-in and week-out,”
explains Brennan Willis, Director of Music and Technology at Terra State.
With ties to both the racetrack and Terra State's music program, Mychael Gamble was an obvious selection for the internship. As a first-year Music Technology major, he has already established himself as a regular presence at Terra's sporting events, where he contributes to media coverage. This summer, Mychael hopes to gain practical experience in event production at the racetrack.
“My Grandad used to take me to the races weekly when I was kid, and he was recently put into an assisted living home in Fremont about a month ago. It made this opportunity feel special to me knowing that my Grandad would be proud of me. I knew immediately it was something I wanted to do and take pride in,” says Gamble.
"John Lewis [Mychael’s Grandfather] had been a regular at the racetrack for many years, and it was a small-world moment to hear Mychael describe his childhood experiences attending races. It's very fitting that he'll be a part of this season's racetrack media production”, expressed Shelly Farmer.
Are you interested in supporting these students and Terra State's partnership with the Fremont Speedway? Join us on April 6th, 2024, to hear Mychael and Skyler live at the eclipse-themed "Racing to Totality" opening night. Racing begins at 7:00 p.m. featuring 410- and 305-winged Sprint cars and dirt trucks. Terra State students and staff can enter for free with their school IDs.
