Terra State Celebrates Outstanding Student Achievements
Terra State Community College announced the winners of the 2023-2024 student recognition awards during commencement ceremonies on May 10. Categories and winners are:
Fremont Rotary Student of the Year- Chris Hale is pursuing a degree in Music technology. He was recognized as student of the month in December 2023. Outside of classes, Chris has held the treasurer position in Student Government. He has volunteered to work basketball games work concession, and performing songs he wrote in class to hype up the audience. Chris will continue his education at Terra State to finish his degree and plans to pursue a career in producing and performing.
Leadership Award- Ashley Edlind graduated from Terra State this May with her Associate of Arts, focusing her classes in social work. She was the 2023-2024 Student Government president and founding president of the Circle K International Student Organization. Ashley has attended multiple Employee Recognition Committee and Board of Trustees meetings to help find ways to involve students and to gain leadership experience. Ashley will continue her education at Tiffin University and will study forensic psychology in hopes of being a paralegal.
Perseverance Award- Kaydence Allen graduated from Terra State this May with her Associate of Arts, focusing her classes in psychology. She started her first year at Terra State in 2021 and mentally struggled to adjust to college life. It wasn’t till her second year at Terra State that she seemed to be eager to learn. Kaydence found herself exploring her interests and used that to find the program she wanted to study. She was now excited to learn and found the motivation she was missing. Since then she has been on the Dean’s List and found a career she is passionate about. Kaydence will continue her education at Tiffin University.
2023-2024 Student Commencement Speaker- Brittany Goeller graduated from Terra State in December 2023 from the nursing program.
Brittany served as the President of the Student Nurses Association Student Organization. Brittany has organized many student nursing events and has been a mentor to other students in the nursing program. She has volunteered to help assist with the Napoleon Road clean up in Fall 2023 and help collect nonperishables for the Liberty Center. Brittany has used her time at Terra State to be a leader and team builder in the Nursing Program.
Student Organization of the Year- Student Government has positively impacted the student population and campus involvement. Student Government’s big project was working concession stands for athletics. They committed 50 percent of their earnings to student government events, 20 percent to student organizations, 20 percent to campus projects, and 10 percent to savings. They also hosted monthly meetings with all student organizations to build a successful community on campus and set future goals. Their events hosted this year include an arm wrestle competition, a Superbowl party, a movie night, chocolate-covered strawberry making, an end-of-year game night, and a voting awareness booth.
