Public Safety & Security
The Public Safety officers at Terra Community College are required to have First Aid/CPR Certification. Most officers have work experience in law enforcement or security. Because Terra's Public Safety officers often work full/part-time for other law enforcement agencies and part-time for Terra Community College, the college has established and maintained excellent working relationships with state and local agencies. Campus Public Safety officers are highly visible and accessible, and have established good rapport with students and staff. This helps facilitate the prompt reporting of any criminal activity that might occur on campus.
Terra's Public Safety officers patrol buildings and grounds for any irregularities or unsafe conditions, report violations of the law, investigate rule infractions, testify in court, direct traffic, provide crowd control, administer first aid and respond to emergencies. The safety officers have the authority to use the minimum amount of force necessary to enforce rules at Terra Community College and minimize loss of life or injury to Terra Community College employees, students, visitors, contractors or property of the college. The officers have the authority to stop any unsafe act. They have the right to detain someone in violation of state and/or federal law and have arrest authority according to Section 2935.04 of the Ohio Revised Code. Campus Security and Crime Prevention Programs
Safety officers meet informally with students and employees promoting responsible actions to ensure the safety of individuals on campus. At various times, the Business and Public Services Division coordinates the "Law Enforcement Open House". The open house features demonstrations, mini-seminars, and information provided by members of the law enforcement community on the topics of law enforcement, crime prevention and personal security. Reporting Emergencies or Criminal Actions on Campus In case of emergency or criminal actions on campus, students or the involved party should report to the campus Public Safety Office, B107. Once an incident has been reported, the Public Safety officer on duty will respond and investigate the incident. If further assistance is needed, the Fremont City Police Department will be called.
