Terra State Community College nursing student Dana Englehart of Fremont has been named the College’s Fremont Rotary Student of the Month for October 2019. The Fremont Ross graduate chose Terra State “because I grew up in Fremont and it was local. I also believe Terra State has a good nursing program.”

Dana has demonstrated success in the classroom despite the challenges she has faced. Her nominator Angela Wood, a Terra State nursing instructor, says, “Dana is a single mother of a one-year-old and finds a way to remain active on campus, in the community and achieve academic success. I have personally witnessed Dana overcome hurdles from the stress of nursing school, being a new mother and finding her way in life. Dana continues to work hard to reach her goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.”

Outside of the classroom, Dana is very active on the Terra State campus. Currently, she is the Student Government Association President, a member of the Student Nurses’ Association and a student employee working in the Student Activities Center daily. She was also a recognized speaker at Terra State’s Partners in Education Banquet and has raised $1,800 for a student scholarship at Terra State.

Wood says, “Dana always comes to lecture prepared, participates during class and displays great professionalism when representing the Terra State nursing program. She is consistently willing to help fellow classmates and walks into a room to greet everyone with a smile. She is a team player and encourages others when they are having tough days.”

Off campus, Dana is just as busy. She is a part of an American Cancer Society Relay for Life team that has raised over $10,000 since 2015. She also works at the Haunted Hydro Dark Attraction Park as a makeup artist and haunt actor and volunteers in many of their charity events.

Dana will graduate from Terra State in December 2019. She plans to move to Tiffin and find an acute care job at Tiffin Mercy Hospital. While moving forward in her career, Dana says, “After I leave Terra State, I will take with me leadership skills, knowledge, self-worth and a sense of pride after all of my accomplishments at Terra State.”
