Fremont, Ohio, December 17, 2018 - The December Fremont Rotary Student of the Month is Marguerite “Maggie” Myers of Fremont, Ohio. Maggie is studying Business Management. “I chose Terra State Community College because it was close to home,” she says. “Plus, as a non-traditional student, Terra State’s smaller class size and class schedules made me feel more comfortable.”

Maggie’s path to Terra State began in 2002 when she lost her job at Farm and Fleet. She could not find a job in office management and experienced several family and personal challenges and medical issues. In 2015, Maggie decided to enroll at Terra State and pursue a degree in business. She did that earning an Associate of Applied Business in 2018. She’s not stopping there, either. Maggie is continuing her education by studying for an Associate in Business Management.

From her studies at Terra State, Maggie looks to take away the knowledge, skills and abilities she has learned over the last three years, as well as, the great advice and friendships. “I am truly blessed to have had the opportunity to learn so much from all of my educators,” she says. “Terra State has an exceptional faculty!” Maggie will also take along experience from being a Terra State student employee. She has worked one year in the Human Resources office and now is working in the Library.

Maggie has been recognized for her efforts while at Terra State. She has been nominated for Commencement Speaker and the Leadership and Perseverance Awards. Maggie also has been named to the Dean’s List several times and graduated with honors.

Outside of the classroom, Maggie has been active on campus. She is a member of Terra State’s 50th Anniversary Committee helping plan the yearlong celebration. Maggie also helped when Terra State assisted in the cleanup of the Campfire Sandusky County facilities. She was there to help students get into their new home during Move-In Day for The Landings at Terra Village and was an integral part of KidsCollege.

Maggie has two daughters who are proud of her choice to return to school and the accomplishments she has achieved. What makes her happiest is her grandchildren. “They make my heart smile,” she says. “They are always telling me how proud they are of me. I tell them don’t ever think you cannot change your stars because you are in charge of your destination in life. Make good choices, don’t ever be afraid to ask for advice and, above all else, be YOU!”
