Student Conduct

Any member of Terra State Community College may report a violation of policy by going to https://terra.edu/reportaconcern and submit the appropriate report form. 

The Student Code of Conduct is contained in the college catalog and outlines policies and hearing procedures in detail. It can be found by going to https://terra.edu/codeofconduct. It is advised the students read the code prior to starting school, and review the code prior to a conduct hearing.

Yes. The Student Code of Conduct allows a student to bring one advisor of their choosing with them to their hearing. The advisor may advise the student, but may not participate in the hearing.

Yes. This means we can only discuss the matter with you. All other individuals, including parents and guardians must have a FERPA Release for us to discuss your record with them. However, FERPA does grant the college permission to notify parents when a student has been found responsible of certain alcohol or drug violations.

Notification by Email - Notification of an alleged violation, hearing meeting, or outcome will be sent by Terra State email and will come from an @maxient.com email address. Do not mark these emails as spam.

Avoiding a hearing will not make the matter go away. If you cannot make a hearing due to a schedule conflict, call and reschedule at 419-559-2345.

If you ignore a hearing notification and miss your meeting, we will make a second attempt to schedule you. If you miss the second meeting, there are several possible outcomes. First, a decision may be made in your absence (Decision in Absentia) using the report and evidence on hand. Second, a Conduct Hold that prevents registration may be applied to your account until the matter is addressed.

You may appeal in two instances. First, if a decision is made in your absence (Decision in Absentia). Second, you may appeal the decision of a board hearing. Informal hearing outcomes result from a mutual agreement and may not be appealed.

Yes. Reports of misconduct do become part of your conduct record at the college. Violations stay on your record while you are at the college, and remain there for three years after graduation. The only exceptions are College Suspension and College Expulsion with are permanent. Please note some colleges may request your records when transferring, and some employers may request your records as part of an employment background check. In these instances, you typically sign a waiver for records to be released by the college.

Hazing is defined by the State of Ohio in the Ohio Revised Code 2903.31 as: “any act or coercing another, including the victim, to do any act of initiation into any student or other organization or any act to continue or reinstate membership in or affiliation with any student or other organization that causes or creates a substantial risk of causing mental or physical harm to any person, including coercing another to consume alcohol or a drug of abuse, as defined in section 3719.011 of the Revised Code.”
