Terra State Awarded Choose Ohio First grant

In partnership with the Ohio Department of Higher Education, Terra State Community College has been awarded $600,000 through the Choose Ohio First grant.

The Choose Ohio First grant is a scholarship initiative that supports the next generation of students in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields. The scholarship grant targets these professions to encourage students to pursue education and training in these high-demand career fields.

Over the next five years, this grant will serve 20 students a year, and the average scholarship will be based on the need of the individual.

Dr. Cory Stine, the executive director of the Terra College Foundation, said, “Terra State Community College is thankful to the Ohio Department of Higher Education for awarding these funds that will help our community members achieve their educational goals. These scholarships will strengthen Terra State students’ competitiveness within STEM disciplines and STEM education to make them prepared to enter high-demand occupations. I am excited the College has provided yet another affordable pathway for individuals to receive a high-quality education while saving both money and time.”

Terra State offers a number of Certificates and Associate Degree programs that are eligible for the Choose Ohio First scholarship, such as:

  • Computer Systems
  • Digital Media Technology
  • Electricity
  • Health Care Administration
  • Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
  • Manufacturing Engineering
  • Medical Assisting
  • Music
  • Nursing
  • Physical Therapist Assistant
  • Power Technologies
  • Robotics
  • Welding

Vice President of Academic Affairs Bill Taylor is excited that the Choose Ohio First grant is giving our community another affordable pathway to earning a degree. “The College is very excited to have been awarded the Choose Ohio First grant.
