Terra State Awarded Commercial Truck Driver Student Aid Program Grant

In partnership with the Ohio Department of Higher Education, Terra State Community College has been awarded $83,000 through the Commercial Truck Driver Student Aid Program.

The Commercial Truck Driver Student Aid Program is a scholarship grant to promote and encourage job growth in commercial driver positions through education training in Ohio.

Dr. Cory Stine, the executive director of the Terra College Foundation, said, “On behalf of Terra State Community College, we are thankful to the Ohio Department of Higher Education for awarding these funds that will help provide participants with the opportunity to receive a full-tuition scholarship while helping to meet labor market demands in northwest Ohio. With the large number of commercial driver positions becoming available, it is necessary that the College prepares our students so that, upon graduation, they are ready to enter the workforce with the skills they need to succeed.”

Participating students will receive a scholarship for half of the tuition costs, and the balance will be in the form of a financial aid loan. Upon completing the program, if the student enters the workforce immediately and agrees to reside, as well as be employed, in Ohio for a minimum of one year, the financial aid loan will be forgiven, making it a full-tuition scholarship.

Terra State partners with Trainco Truck Driving Schools to provide truck driving training on the College’s campus. CDL training can be completed in three weeks and students will earn six-and-a-half college credits at Terra State.

Coordinator of Community Education Holly Hoffman is excited that the Commercial Truck Driver Student Aid Program grant is giving our community another affordable option to enter into the workforce. “The College is very excited to have been awarded the Commercial Truck Driver Student Aid Program grant. The need for CDL drivers is greater than ever before and I am happy that Terra State is providing another pathway to help increase workforce placement in our community. I hope people will take advantage of this amazing offer.”
